Veroma salad mix

Interesting facts

The Veroma salad mix is a very special combination of two different types of lettuce: the green, crisp SalaCrisp and the red, slightly bitter Treviso radicchio.

The name Veroma is an in-house creation by BEHR and is made up of the two Italian words verde and rossa – meaning green and red and referring to the two colours of the salad mix.

In terms of flavour, the two salads go together perfectly. Treviso radicchio has a slightly bitter flavour and softer leaves. The SalaCrisp brings a lot of freshness and crispness with a very mild taste. Both salads can be used to conjure up a colourful salad that not only looks good, but also has a wide range of flavours.

We grow both SalaCrisp and Treviso radicchio in our fields in Ohlendorf (Lower Saxony). Thanks to the farmland's proximity to the North Sea and its open location to the west, temperatures are moderate and there is a regular flow of fresh air. Northern Germany thus provides the ideal growing conditions for SalaCrisp. Radicchio also finds the ideal growing conditions in northern Germany thanks to the light, deep soils and the temperate climate.

Trim off the stems of the SalaCrisp and the Treviso radicchio and then wash both lettuces in cold water. Now cut the leaves into small pieces as desired.

For example, you can use both lettuces to create a colourful salad with lots of different flavour components. When it comes to dressing, let your imagination run wild. A classic vinegar and oil dressing goes just as well as a yoghurt or mayonnaise dressing.

Or use the Veroma salad mix as the basis for a delicious two-course menu: serve the SalaCrisp however you like as a starter salad and fry the Treviso briefly, to serve with pasta for example.
